News Coverage of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

When Maharishi returned from India and settled in Vlodrop Holland, there was a dearth of News coverage on his activities. There were a few reports of conflicts over and plans for land use in some local and regional papers but very little about Maharishi himself.

In an article in the UK Daily Mail newspaper Nick Jones reveals in an account of a late visit to Vlodrop that Maharishi was a recluse communicating with journalists and even close followers by video link.

Deepak Chopra's recent account of Maharishi's 'lost year' goes some way to explaining why this might have been.

The Drama of Maharishi's Death and Cremation

In January 2008 it was revealed that Maharishi was retiring and would work on a commentary on the Rig Veda, handing over control to a succesor.

A few weeks later on February 11th 2008 it was announed that he had died. Although many commentators subsequently refered to him choosing 'maha-samedi' (voluntary passing) it appears from videos published by the TM Movement in 2007 that Maharishi was very frail, having assistance to lift small objects and slurred in his speech.

A huge flow of biographies and reminiscences followed many of which we cover in this section of the site.

There was dramatic coverage of the public display of Maharishi's remains and cremation particularly from AP photographer Rajesh Kumar Singh.
