One thing is clear from all the recollections on this site - whatever you feelings about Maharishi's teaching and activities, meeting him was a unique experience which many people claim changed their lives. We carry recollections from both the well-known and famous as well as the anonymous. Many of the photographs show on people's faces the impact a personal encounter with Maharishi could have.

Maharishi's last years were reclusive and his pronouncements marked with bitterness towards world leaders such as Tony Blair.

In the 1960s and 1970s however he had made a whole generation aware that spiritual development was an aspiration anyone could hold, not just monks and nuns as was the prevailing view.

Publicity surrounding high profile celebrities drawn to his simple message in the 1960s made Maharishi a household name and led to the creation of a worldwide organisation with many wealthy people donating their time and resources to further his ambitious plans.

In the late 70s and 80s the plans became ever more ambitious encompassing education, agriculture, construction, medicine and more.

Judicious investment of course income in the 1970s paid dividends in creating a war chest to acquire properties and provide a lavish lifestyle for Maharishi and his immediate entourage.

Technology was heavily invested in, firstly videotape technology and then later the Internet.

"He had made a whole generation aware that spiritual development was an aspiration anyone could hold."

The establishment of political parties intended to gain power in the US and European countries and the public displays of 'yogic flying' alienated most of the grass roots participants in Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation programme.

A core of loyalists kept the worldwide activities of the 'World Government' alive for 30 years but almost all of the surviving leadership became involved with Maharishi's teaching in its 70's heyday

On this site you will find a number of articles and photographs of the surviving leadership and its individualistic satorial style.

'Maharishi Remembered' is un-affiliated with any organization or grouping and carries a wide range of opinions about Maharishi.
